Fight Off Yeast and Flush Out Toxins
Candida Yeast and pH Correcting Blend:
DetoxaTrim's custom designed Candida Yeast and pH-correcting blend is comprised of Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Fructooligosaccharides, Caprylic acid and L-Glutamine.

Acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum & FOS (Fructooligosaccharides):
Acidophilus & Bifidobacterium bifidum are sources of friendly bacteria that live in our intestines while FOS helps promote the growth of this friendly bacteria. Such healthy bacteria inhabit the intestines and vagina and protect against the entrance and proliferation of "bad" organisms such as yeast.

While yeast normally lives in our intestines, the yeast and bacterial flora are constantly competing for space, and generally they keep each other in check. However, our bacterial flora can become depleted due to a variety of things such as environmental toxins and antibiotics. Once depleted, an over-growth of fungi, yeast and dangerous bacteria occurs causing some unpleasant symptoms such as the development of new allergies, headaches, lack of energy, intestinal pain, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation and diarrhea.

For people with severe overgrowth of yeast fungi, or dangerous bacteria in the gut, the organisms that have infected and inflamed the gut need to be killed. This is accomplished through a variety of mechanisms while Acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum & FOS offer a variety of potential therapeutic uses including the following:

Caprylic acid:
Caprylic Acid is an 8-carbon short chain fatty acid produced by the body in small quantities and can be found in coconut and palm oil. It contains anti-microbial & anti-fungal properties and has been shown in both clinical and in vitro studies to help reduce Candida yeast overgrowth and help establish the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut.

Glutamine:
Glutamine, the most abundant amino acid in the bloodstream plays a critical role in protecting the lining of the gastrointestinal tract called the mucosa. This is extremely important to the body when trying to combat some of the negative side effects caused by Candida yeast overgrowth.

While Candida is medically classified as yeast, it can undergo a shift in formation over time and can eventually turn into a fungus. This fungus contains long and sharp root-like structures that can puncture holes in the mucosa lining of our intestinal walls. These tiny holes allow toxins, undigested food, bacteria and yeast to enter into the bloodstream. The common name for this condition is called ‘Leaky Gut Syndrome". Once these unwanted substances enter and circulate throughout the body they may cause a host of negative issues, affecting your bodily organs and dramatically slowing down your metabolism.

Research suggests that glutamine may be the most ideal nutrient for the regeneration of the stomach lining as it promotes healing of the cells in the intestines. By helping to rebuild the mucosa lining of the stomach you may stop or minimize any unwanted substances from entering the bloodstream and wreaking havoc. Your body can then complete its normal digestive process and function optimally.

Curb Hunger Pangs and Sweet Cravings
Appetite Control Blend:

Hoodia: A Promising Appetite Suppressant
Hoodia is a plant that grows in the desert of South Africa that is receiving a great deal of attention and is currently being marketed as a potent ‘appetite suppressant". The San tribe in South Africa claims to have used Hoodia for thousands of years to fight off hunger during long hunting trips. Animal studies conducted by a research council in South Africa demonstrated that the extract was effective at promoting weight loss. A United Kingdom pharmaceutical company got involved with the goal of further developing the active ingredients into prescription drugs. A study conducted by the company showed impressive results in humans in 2001. In a double blind, placebo-controlled study, 19 overweight men were provided with hoodia gordonii or placebo and their food intake monitored for 15 days. Subjects taking the compound spontaneously reduced their food intake by 30% or about 1000 kcal/day. The active ingredient in Hoodia has been purified and is called P57. Experiments showed that injection of P57 directly into the brain of mice resulted in decreased food intake over the subsequent 24 hours by 50-60%. This was associated with increased energy status (ATP) of the hypothalamus. P57 injection prevented the normal decline in ATP that occurs during food deprivation. The authors suggest that P57 up-regulates the energy sensing mechanisms in the brain that influence feeding behavior.

Glucomannan Enhances Weight Loss
Glucomannan is a soluble fiber with a very high water-holding capacity that forms a gel in the stomach causing it to signal the appetite-regulating center in the brain. Studies show the potential of glucomannan to cause a spontaneous decrease in food consumption and accompanying weight loss. A randomize, placebo-controlled study published earlier this year compared the effects of different glucomannan fiber supplements versus a placebo on weight loss. Three groups took various doses of glucomannan ranging from 420 to 4320 mg/day with weight loss determined after 5 weeks of treatment. All the glucomannan groups experienced significantly greater weight loss compared to placebo (about 2-fold greater weight loss). Considering that most people regain weight because they cannot maintain caloric restriction over the long-term, the fact that glucomannan reduces food intake on the subject's own volition is a major advantage over other diet approaches that rely on will power. Further, glucomannan works through its high viscosity and gel-forming properties, not the sympathetic nervous system like other weight loss stimulants.

Chromium
Chromium supplementation is believed by many reputable scientists and physicians to be an important tool in the war on diabetes and obesity because of its important role in glucose and fat metabolism. Chromium is believed to form an integral component of ‘glucose tolerance factor" a compound that is responsible for activating insulin receptor kinase, thereby increasing insulin sensitivity that can result in a normalizing effect on blood sugar levels. Without adequate chromium, insulin becomes inefficient and glucose (sugar) piles up in the bloodstream. When adequate levels of chromium are present, insulin becomes more efficient and cell membranes are more receptive to insulin's efforts to usher glucose molecules out of the bloodstream and into cells. Glucose is then burned for energy instead of being stored as fat.

In one study of 20 overweight African-American women, researchers found that ‘fat loss was significantly greater, and non-fat body mass loss significantly less, with chromium intake." In this randomized, double blind study, subjects took either 600 mcg of chromium nicotinate or placebo for two months. Groups were then switched for two months, without their knowledge. Those receiving chromium began taking placebo, and vice versa. All subjects also engaged in a modest diet and exercise regimen throughout the study period.

An intriguing aspect of this clinical trial was the finding that subjects on chromium lost fat but retained lean muscle, in contrast to those on placebo, who lost fat and muscle. Researchers also noted that during the placebo phase, fat loss was significantly less among women who received placebo first than among those who received chromium first, indicating a carryover effect from chromium supplementation. These women continued to lose proportionally more fat, even during the placebo phase. None of the women experienced any adverse effects from taking 600 mcg of niacin-bound chromium.

Given the alarming rise in cases of insulin resistance and diabetes in the US, it may be prudent to increase one's level of chromium to stave off symptoms of metabolic syndrome, such as increased glucose intolerance, excess weight gain, elevated blood lipids (cholesterol and triglycerides), and low levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. All of these parameters are potentially harmful if left untreated.

Boost Your Metabolism Naturally
Metabolism Boosters:

Advantra Z (Citrus Aurantium): a unique zhi shi extract with Tremendous Fat Burning Effects!
Zhi Shi is the immature dried fruit of Citrus Aurantium- also commonly referred to as bitter orange. You may know Citrus Aurantium by a number of other names: C. florida, C. vulgaris, C. bigaradia, sour orange, Seville orange, or Neroli orange.

For thousands of years, zhi shi has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat chest congestion and indigestion, stimulate gastrointestinal functions, and improve circulation and liver function- with no reported adverse reactions.

Only recently, Dennis Jones, M.A., Ph.D. discovered that, in certain stages of maturity, zhi shi contains a rare composition of five adrenergic amines: synephrine, N-methyltyramine, hordenine, octopamine, and tyramine. While synephrine is the most well known, the other amines have demonstrated equally powerful thermogenic activity. His exclusive research, therefore, identified new properties of this exciting traditional herb, which function to burn fat and increase physical performance.

From this research, Dr. Jones produced a zhi shi extract following the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine: the whole plant is more powerful than isolating its component parts. These principles inspired Dr. Jones to develop a unique formula that contains the entire synergistic amine synephrine is the most well known, the other amines have demonstrated equally powerful thermogenic activity. His exclusive research, therefore, identified new properties of this exciting traditional herb that functions to burn fat and increase physical performance.

From this research, Dr. Jones produced a zhi shi extract following the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine: the whole plant is more powerful than isolating its component parts. These principles inspired Dr. Jones to develop a unique formula that contains the entire synergistic amine composition as it exists in nature rather than isolating synephrine alone.

Using proprietary harvesting and extraction techniques, Dr. Jones was able to attain a unique anime composition at a percentage that is unrivaled in the marketplace today with Advantra Z.

Advantra Z Boosts Metabolism by Stimulating Beta-3 Receptors
The key to Advantra Z's fat burning effects is its ability to stimulate beta-3 cell receptors with minimal impact on alpha-1, alpha-2, beta-1, and beta-2 receptors. This means that Advantra Z functions to increase the metabolic rate without affecting heart rate or blood pressure.

Advantra Z's unique composition of adrenergic amines causes the release of adrenaline and noradrenaline- most likely, in the vicinity of the beta-3 receptor sites, which are found primarily in adipose tissue and the liver.

Stimulation of these beta-3 receptors elicits the breakdown of fat- known as lipolysis. Simultaneously, this stimulation causes an increase in the metabolic rate- thermogenesis- which burns calories.

How cell receptors respond to adrenergic amines
Every cell in the body has cell receptors called alpha-1 and -2 and beta-1, -2 and -3 that can be occupied by the body's own adrenergic amines: adrenaline and noradrenaline.

When a receptor is occupied, the anime elicits a response from the cell. But how that response is perceived by the body depends on the type of receptor, the number and predominant types of receptors found on the cell, and the tissue or organ containing the cell.

While the bodies overall response to adrenergic amines is complex, in general:
•  Alpha-1 receptors cause constriction of the arteries- which can increase blood pressure.
•  Alpha-2 receptors affect blood pressure by constricting peripheral blood vessels and inhibiting lipolysis.
•  Beta-1 and Beta-2 receptors affect cardiac function by causing bronchiodilation and dilation of blood vessels in the heart and skeletal muscle.
•  Beta-3 receptors increase the rate at which fat is released from body stores (lipolysis) and increase the resting metabolic rate (thermogenesis).

Preliminary research has shown that Advantra Z stimulates beta-3 receptors almost exclusively and unlike other thermogenic effects makes minimal contact with the alpha-1, alpha-2, beta-1 and beta-2 receptors that can cause negative cardiovascular side effects.

Study Confirms Advantra Z Safe and Effective!
The results of a new study on bitter orange (Citrus aurantium) extract confirm what several other recent studies have shown: that the natural ingredient has virtually no impact on blood pressure or heart rate.

Results from the study conducted at the University of Connecticut and Hartford (Conn.) Hospital appear in the Winter 2005 issue of Pharmacotherapy, the journal of human pharmacology and drug therapy. The team of four researchers- which included cardiologists and pharmacists- measured the rate-corrected QT (QTc) interval and blood pressure before dosing subjects with bitter orange extract or placebo and then again at one, three, five and eight hours after dosing. The QT interval is part of the normal heart electrical activity seen in an electrocardiogram (EKG). Substances that lengthen this interval are thought to be risk factors for the heart.

In the published findings, it was noted that subjects receiving bitter-orange extract versus the placebo had similar post-dose QTc interval, systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure. All test subjects were healthy and adult volunteers.

Green Tea Augments Body Fat Loss
There have been a large number of studies showing the health-promoting effects of green tea including reductions in body fat. A study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition examined the effects of 12 weeks of green tea (containing 690 mg catechins/day) versus placebo on weight loss and several measures of body fat in men. After 12 weeks, men consuming the green tea had two-fold greater weight loss (-2.4 vs -1.3 kg) and fat loss (-1.4 vs -0.7 kg). Additionally, this study also assessed both subcutaneous and visceral fat in the abdominal region using computed tomography imaging. Compared to placebo, green tea had a dramatic four-fold greater effect on reductions in subcutaneous and visceral fat in the abdomen. The study shows that green tea is an effective method for shedding fat, particularly in the mid-section. The most recent work confirming the fat-mobilizing effects of green tea comes from a study published in the June issue of the International Journal of Obesity. This study examined different doses of EGCG, the bioactive compound in green tea, in a mouse model of diet-induced obesity. In a dose-dependent manner, EGCG reduced the amount of weight gain, which exclusively came from body fat. The study showed this effect was not due to a decrease in food intake, but rather a reduction in the absorption of energy. EGCG also caused an increase in fat oxidation. These studies provide strong evidence for a role of green tea in lowering body fat.

Calorie-Blocker & Fat Burning-Accelerator
Still more good news on the green tea front: the most-active principle- epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG- also fights fat by cutting calorie absorption and by increasing fat oxidation.

A group of German researchers (German Institute of Human Nutrition in Potsdam) has shown that mice given EGCG are much less prone to body fatness. Obesity was induced in the test animals by feeding them a high-fat diet. Purified EGCG was then fed for several weeks, and body composition and food digestibility were recorded.

At the end of the study, the researchers found that calories were being wasted in the animals' stools and that several biochemical parameters were altered consistent with an increase in fat oxidation. That means that less calories were being absorbed while more fat calories were being burned.

The real bottom line was that ‘dietary supplementation of EGCG resulted in a dose-dependent attenuation of body fat accumulation", i.e. the more EGCG, the less body fat gained.

This simply adds more fuel to the raging fire of evidence favoring EGCG-standardized green tea as a body fat-control supplement. Combined with caffeine, it is dynamite- the basic two-part stack that anyone with body fat/bodyweight problems should be scarfing down daily.

Grapefruit Extract Research points to different grapefruit components regulating intestinal and liver metabolism of fat transportation improving its digestion and decreasing the likeliness of fat storage. Additional research shows that naringenin, (a flavonoid in grapefruit) and pectin (a soluble fiber in grapefruit) can enhance insulin sensitivity and reduce fat storage.

In a 12-week study, led by Dr Ken Fujioka from the clinic's Nutrition and Metabolic Research Center, researchers found that people eating a serving of grapefruit with each meal lost 3.6 lbs on average. About 100 male and female participants, who had an average weight of 218 pounds, were divided into three groups. One ate half a grapefruit with each meal, a second was instructed to drink a serving of grapefruit juice three times a day, and a third acted as a control group. The study participants maintained their daily eating habits and slightly enhanced their exercise routine. Those eating grapefruit three times a day lost on average of 3.6 pounds over the study period while some of the patients lost more than 10 pounds. The control group only saw an average decrease of 0.5 pounds indicating that grapefruit played a significant role in their weight loss.

The study also showed a strong connection between grapefruit and insulin. The study suggests that consuming grapefruit may help to enhance insulin utilization due to the improvement in the participant's blood sugar levels. Insulin is known to help regulate fat metabolism and may have also contributed to the significant weight loss experienced. This improvement may be due to the fact that grapefruit extract contains pectin, which is absorbed by the body. Pectin is a known digestive aid that assists in the breakdown of fatty acids while also reducing the rate at which carbohydrates enter our body. This helps to lower insulin secretion and in so doing, reduces fat storage.

Apple Cider Vinegar
With over ninety naturally occurring compounds, apple cider vinegar can be one of the most important ingredients needed to help reduce candida and toxic build up in the body. Proven to be safe and effective for years, apple cider vinegar (like grapefruit) contains pectin, a soluble fiber that can enhance insulin sensitivity and reduce fat storage, flushes out waste, improves digestion and stimulates the metabolism.

Most importantly, apple cider vinegar helps reduce stomach acid and helps to balance the acid-alkaline system in your body. This is of critical importance because yeast infections like Candida are caused by the unbalance of acid levels in the body. When the pH balance of the gut is out of balance, and beneficial bacteria in the gut have been destroyed, yeast, fungus and bacteria can take over and can result in a condition referred to as ‘Leaky Gut Syndrome". Leaky Gut Syndrome allows undigested food particles, toxins, bacteria and yeast to enter into the bloodstream. This condition can cause a host of negative issues affecting your bodily organs and dramatically slowing down your metabolism.

By correcting the acid-alkaline balance in the body you may prevent these unwanted substances from entering the bloodstream and improves the health and function of the vital organs of the body, such as the kidneys, bladder and liver. This in turn will promote digestion, assimilation and elimination, while neutralizing any toxic substances that enter the body.

Papaya
Being able to properly digest your food is one of the body's most important functions for establishing good overall health and well being. Effectively digesting your food allows for proper absorption and elimination and papaya can be an excellent aid to the digestive and absorption processes.

As mentioned earlier, when the intestinal track is not functioning optimally a condition called ‘Leaky Gut Syndrome" may occur and allow undigested food particles to pass into the bloodstream. Papaya can play an important role in the digestion process, helping to ensure that food and other nutritional substances are broken down and assimilated properly. By doing so, this may help prevent food from inappropriately being absorbed into circulation.

Uva Ursi
Uva Ursi is an herb that has antimicrobial, astringent, antiseptic and anti-fungal properties. In addition uva ursi may help to flush out bacteria by promoting urination. This natural diuretic effect can reduce water weight and bloating.

The antiseptic compound in uva ursi is arbutin, which the body converts into a substance with proven astringent and bacteria-killing powers called hydroquinone. During urination, as it passes out of the body, it acts on the mucus membranes of the urinary tract to soothe irritation, reduce inflammation, and fight infection.
